Migrating terra bytes of data to Azure Synapse with data streaming solutions!

Our client is a leading sterile compounding partner manufacturing a broad range of product portfolios. Their products are available in various forms such as syringes, IV bags, CADD cassettes, PCA vials, Monoject barrel syringes, and pharmacy bulk bag packages. They offer hospitals ready and sterile medicines to physicians and patients on demand.

Business Challenge: Seeking for real-time analytical reports to streamline the supply chain

The client has various business units such as sales, marketing, manufacturing, operations, safety, and much more. Being the core of the business, their marketing and sales domains needed real-time analytical reports, whereas other domains required periodical reports to proceed with their business decisions. As they manufacture lifesaving drugs with limited shelf life, their need for maintaining an appropriate supply chain without any adulteration or contamination is crucial.

The client had siloed data warehouse to store datasets from various touchpoints. Their data loading process was inefficient with legacy truncate & load strategies. As they managed their data warehouse in Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), they were facing performance issues and difficulties in adopting advanced business intelligence solutions.  This downfall impacted their manufacturing process and supply chain of products.

Solution: Modernizing data platform that adopts advanced business intelligence solutions

The client reached out to AVASOFT. Our data engineers analyzed the client’s existing data model and recommended the best possible architecture to adopt an advanced data analytics solution.

We migrated the client’s on-prem Azure VM infrastructure (IaaS) to Azure Synapse (PaaS) to adopt advanced data intelligence features.  Successively, our data engineers automated the data load from various touchpoints such as CRM application, LinkedIn, Google analytics, manufacturing unit, Infor, LMS, customer portal into a unified data platform. For this purpose, we created a meta table and DataOps pipeline that enhances the performance of data load jobs.

Shifted the legacy data analytics report formats from Tableau to Power BI. Further, we automated the generation of business intelligence reports for various domains such as sales, marketing, operations, manufacturing based on their needs by leveraging Tableau & Power BI.  We authorized uplines to download business reports in their desired formats.

Employed SentryOne for Power BI report validation. If there are any deviations on the reports in comparison with the data warehouse, SentryOne will notify administrators. The complete data model and job schedules were monitored by Redgate. The client could effortlessly streamline manufacturing process and supply chain management with our 360-degree business intelligence solutions.

Business gains: Cloud infrastructure that’s easier to manage and stream datasets

After modernizing their on-prem Azure VM to Azure Synapse platform, they could slash their maintenance efforts to the maximum. We enforced the lightweight data load process by leveraging metadata table strategy and DataOps pipeline.  The client could intuitively visualize datasets and make accurate business decisions on the manufacturing process, shipping, operations, sales activities, and much more.

Site managers could easily plan the resources based on supply-demand and real-time processes. The workforce can accurately catch up on the previous shift processes without any knowledge transfer or data losses. They could continue working on the manufacturing process without any hassles.

The client could cut off the huge portion of licensing costs by leveraging the unified Microsoft 365 solution using Power BI for data analytics. The teams could readily access process reports in desired formats by accessing Tableau with automated performance monitoring and validation.
